What's Going On? An Obscure Blogger's Look Into the Blogosphere's Underpants

It all happened yesterday when I opened up KennySia's blog. I read this small little bit about something dealing with Wendy a.k.a. Xiaxue and bad role models. I didn't think about much it. I read Kenny's blog for the laughs. Unfortunately, his blogs have left me laughing as hard as a flacid penis is erect. To give him credit, it's not easy to write funny blogs everyday/often. I know. I've tried.

Then later on in the day, my friend IMed me to URLs: this and this. My eyes were wide open. Something was going on in the Singapore blogosphere and I was missing it because my penis is flacid (damn you KennySia! Make me laugh!).

I opened up the two links and read them. Then I opened up Xiaxue's blog and read hers. Then I followed the two links on her blog and read theirs. And finally, I reopened up every blog I knew regarding this whole incident and reread everything for more 'clues'.

My penis was still flacid. Nothing about this was making me laugh... But it sure hell was interesting. I decided after talking to a few friends to write my two cents worth on all this.

Background
For those who have no idea what's going on, Xiaxue recently lost two endorsement deals. One was with Kimage and one was with Voxy. Both I never cared anything for. Apparently, Xiaxue (can I just call her Wendy?) lost her deals thanks to a campaign launched by a blogger, KimberlyCun.

Banish all skinny models!

First thing to catch my eye of the campaign image was, "Shouldn't it be bad role models?" But then again, Bad Models is fitting. Wendy isn't exactly a Dawn Yang and neither does she look like a model.

Honestly, I didn't really see the point of launching a whole vigilante movement against one noisy individual. So far everything I've read seemed to point out that the whole thing was really just about Wendy.

I had to be sure so I decided to embark on a little adventure.

But first, I needed to pee.

Clearing Things Up
Before I begin my little trip down anti-Wendy-blogolane, let me clear up some things.

1. I am no fan of Wendy Cheng aka Xiaxue. My interest with her began when she blogged some smiting things about Christians. My interest in her also ended there. While I was offended by her Christians-are-stupid post (generalization bad. It's like saying all men have small penises), I decided that it wasn't worth getting worked up about and being anti-Xiaxue.

I remain neutral and unaligned. I do not claim to support her views but I do claim to oppose her sometimes absurd views.

2. As best as I can, I tried to be objective as possible when writing this.

3. I am no ardent, mindless supporter of any blog mentioned here. I just read them.

Onto My Adventure!
First stop, KimberlyCun! What better way to get on top of something that to start at its source (hyuk hyuk)? The first thing to catch my eye on Ms KimberlyCun's blog was this:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Bet how much ah? I wan bet also lei! Twenty Dorra! Take or not?

This didn't bode well. It sounded like this whole campaign started as a personal agenda. What she wrote in her post didn't seem to put down the nagging question I had in my head, "Is this all really just about Xiaxue?"

I decided to do a little bit more investigation. I decided to find the first post where all this started. Being the lazy bugger I am, I scrolled down to the bottom and just skimmed through the lot.

After reading a whole bunch of yadda yadda, I decided that KimberlyCun looks like the type of girl that could tear my balls off. If I ever meet her, I'm wearing a guard.

Then I stumbled upon this gem. Still my question remained. Wendy's picture (for all of us who know) was in the background. I wanted to be extra sure whether this was about Wendy or not. So I shot KimberlyCun an email.

Next Stop, Wonderland
Next stop was Peter Tan's blog. Because his blog was so wordy, I just followed the link I got off another blog's site. My dual lazy eyes meant I was too damned lazy to skim through and find what I was looking for.

This is what Peter Tan had to say.

This bit of line caught my eye:

And then there was one who haughtily gave justification for using such toilets
because she considered herself temporarily disabled. Why? Because menses was
dribbling down her thighs.

Now Peter... That was just so wrong! Why are you imagining icky fluids dribbling down her thighs!

So word has it that Peter Tan emailed Xiaxue's sponsors asking them to pull their sponsorship or some stuff like that. I can't help thinking that his reaction was a little bit personal. She made fun of handicap people and he's wheelchair bound. I mean, I'm handicapped too. I have a handicap of 30 whenever I play golf but if I wanted to be all moral-like and such, I wouldn't have sparked off at this very moment. I'd hit her at another moment when it would be a little less personal.

I understand Peter Tan's rage against Wendy but really man, Jesus says turn the other cheek. I have four to turn. Get it? *Chortle Chortle*

Peter Tan had me feeling more unsettled about this whole thing.

It was time to move on.

Sialansuay!
Next stop was the great anti-Xiaxue blog, XiaLanXue! A trip there always gets me ol' heart beating. I mean honestly, who didn't enjoy the author's photoshop skills?

It is well known that XiaLanXue is an anti-Xiaxue blog and one can't expect her/him/it/wtf-is-the-authors-gender to be objective but, I was expecting some sort of rational response in regards to this campaign.

Looking at the blog, it seems like the author did a good job in doing her/his/it work. Check out the emails and in-depth analysis of Wendy's demise. All very convincingly done. However, the author does resort in one bit of mud-slinging at this point:

Didn't you learn that in Mass Comm? Wait.. Did you manage to learn anything
after your PSLE?

Shame on you author of XiaLanXue. Isn't it obvious none of us did until we went to Poly/Uni/College?

XiaLanXue readers tend to pride themselves as being more intelligent than XiaXue readers. They constantly call XiaXue readers as 'mindless' feet kissers. I decided to pick out a random 'soundbyte' from XiaLanXue's comments to see if its readers are indeed more smarter than Wendy's.

This is what I got:

finah said...
she's moderating her comments alright.i commented on her blog,
saying that kimage and voxy was juat being friendly and she actually lost the
deal.the comment never appeared on her blog. all i keep seeing was, "kimage is
so stupid" and "im boycotting voxy" and "i will never step foot in those two
places again since you lost the endorsement."what crap.

Finah and some others apparently missed this on Wendy's blog:

More people would've paid attention to this had she not been wearing a top.

Apparently hardcore XiaLanXue supporters are slightly visually impaired. It's a good thing I have eight eyes so I can claim an advantage!

Moving on, it appeared to me that even XiaLanXue supporters and the blog itself was making this whole thing into a Wendy Witch Hunt. No one was actually talking about the morality of other figures out there.

I was getting confused. It was time to move on to see what others are saying.

A Date With SandraNotLicious
My next stop was SandraPowderpuff (not to be confused with the ultra-foxy Sandralicious).

Apparently SimpleSandra of SandraPowderpuff is not much different from XiaLanXue. Both blogs hell-bent on 'whacking' Wendy. Like XiaLanXue, SimpleSandra did make some very good points.

However, one remark was lost to me:

Wendy said:
I don't blame Voxy, because as Turodrique told me, in this politically
correct world, no company will ever want to be seen as being politically
incorrect. (With the exception of Guess endorsing Paris Hilton perhaps; sex
tapes and all)

SimpleSandra answered:
First of all, with regards to Paris Hilton, being the heiress of an
hotelier empire (and a better looking one) has its perks.

Okay, great. So this Boycott-Products-Endorsed-by-BAD-Models-of-Society has it's exceptions among some of its vocal supporters. To me, a bad role model is a bad role model. I once read an article where a small girl said she wants to grow up to be just like Paris Hilton. How scary is that? But we endorse her and not Kate Moss? How does her bad attitude make her any better than a pot smoker? All evils are equal at the end of the day right?

So is Wendy worse than the Paris Hiltons, Kate Mosses, David Beckhams, or Colin Farrels? Apparently so according to this blog.

What All This Was Starting to Look Like
To me, all this was starting to look a lot like this:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The last "big" blog I looked at was ShaolinTiger's. It was just as disheartening. His last line didn't show that he had more integrity than Wendy. This is what he said:

Yeah she annoys me, I might write to her other sponsors and voice my opinion,
according to the oh great Xia Xue, that's what life is all about right? Voicing
your opinion, because it's ALWAYS right, and not giving a shit about the
repercussion or anyone elses rights/feelings.
She may annoy you but mate, no need to stoop as low as her. At least don't quote her if you are. You have the right to do whatever you want true but, is it 'reactionary' or out of rational analysis?

As I said earlier, this whole campaign didn't seem right.

My bowels were getting queezy. It must be all the prunes I ate.

Little Gems of Wisdom
The smallest gem of wisdom came from the man whom many have viewed as Wendy's lapdog, KennySia. This is what he had to say:

She's a bad girl. Not by a long shot is she a positive role model for
society. Neither are Britney Spears, Jolin Tsai, Paris Hilton or even Angelina
Jolie (UN Ambassador/blood swapper/chain smoker/casual sex advocate).

My point is, bad role models exist everywhere.

Bingo. The man has gotten it right. I believe this is what the campaign should've been all about, creating awareness that a lot of society's role models are worse than Wendy and we shouldn't endorse any of them.

My bowels breathed a little easier. I'm glad I went and took that crap instead of trying to finish typing all this.

Last Stop of the Day
My journey ended with a reply email from KimberlyCun. I had asked her if her campaign was just about Wendy. She assured me that in the long run, it's not. I'm glad as the originator of the Boycott-blah-blah-blah image, she had the foresight (not skin!) to envision taking this campaign up to another level.

I'd like to see this thing go international. Oh wait, it already is. But make no mistake, it's no Malaysia versus Singapore thing. If it was, I'd be in trouble. Malaysian living in Singapore with big war going on does not make a good combination.

I think I can accept that Wendy was just the first stop of a long journey for this campaign. But whether it starts and ends with Wendy, we'll have to wait and see. Just please don't go after Maria Sharapova or Michelle Wie! I beg of thee!

Anyway, you can see her reply to me here. I have her permission by the way. She's such a sweetie with the looks of a woman who could rip my balls off.

Conclusion
There is a lesson to be learnt here I believe. Don't stir fry live chicken. That is the first and most important lesson.

I wonder if this campaign were extended to other 'celebrities', would it get the as much support as it were getting right now from a good number of individuals? I'd like to see how it turns out. KimberlyCun claims that she wants to take this further and that Wendy was just a starting point. I, in all my innocence and naivity believe her.

But again, I wonder if she'd get as much support as she did from Wendy-dislikers (hate is such a strong word) when she extends this campaign.

It's funny how one person's good intentions turn out to be other people's excuse for a witch hunt.

So in closing, I re-emphasize that I personally would want to see this extended on a larger scale.

In the mean time, come on guys! Wendy doesn't need anymore baby-mouthed insults thrown her way! The woman needs a hug. Did anyone ever consider like just giving her a little Buddha, Jesus, or Mohammad (alphabetical order babeh!)?

Okay just kidding. Do whatever you guys want. Just be mature and responsible about it. Remember, if you resort to doing what the person you don't like does, you're in no better position to preach to the world than he or she does.

I need to pee.

Hey Merv,

Actually the paragraph you quoted me on was heavily loaded with sarcasm.

You can read my post today if you want something a little more serious and erudite.

Nice post though, pretty good understanding you have of the whole shenanigan.

Cheers!

"Next stop was the great anti-Xiaxue blog, XiaLanXue! A trip there always gets me ol' heart beating. I mean honestly, who didn't enjoy the author's photoshop skills?"

You gave the author too much credit. He copy and pasted the photos from Hardwarezone Forum's Eat-Drink-Man-Woman Thread without so much as to provide a link back to the source.

Hi Merv

Her original "introduction" to the comments area was quite different from the one that you just took a screenshot of. (To Kenny: I am quite sure you know that by sponsoring the halo comments thingie, you are indirectly helping her to deceive her readers and sponsors right? By manipulating the comments on her site, she portrays the view that alot of people like her and SUPPORT her actions and words But we KNOW it's not true. On my site we see the comments that get filtered out. I choose not to delete comments so we can hear both sides of the story. And you can see that reality is so much more different from the version in her control. Even looking past my site, you can look in forums such as lowyat [which I only got to know after I found the link of some thread linking to my site], flowerpod, EDMW and SPUG to name a few whereby people get to express their real sentiments to her entries. I know you are her friend Kenny, but I also know that you cannot possibly agree with the things she says on her blog right?)

And yes those photoshopped pics are not done by me. I have repeated myself a dozen times in my blog they are taken from EDMW.

And just to add on..

I am sure by now people should have realized that I argue my points clearly with facts and analysis but since the medium I am using is still ultimately a blog, I am allowed to be sarcastic. Afterall, your whole entry is riddled with sarcasm anyway. I just want to point out that though I am sure you figured out that the line you quoted was meant to be sarcasm, readers of your site would not be able to figure it out if they are lazy to click on the link.
